From Dilli's Speakeasies to a Stormy Bar in Cyberabad: How Bar Stormy Stirred Up Hyderabad

If you've been following my Hyderabad local food guide for a while, you know I've been constantly keeping tabs on how our city's dining and drinking landscape is evolving. We have moved way beyond just late-night biryani runs and Irani chai (though I will never say no to either). The cocktail scene here has truly come into its own, and my latest evening out made me realize just how beautifully it's maturing.

Enter Bar Stormy, the newest resident in the Financial District, and quite frankly, the launch every cocktail enthusiast in the city has been waiting for.

When Delhi's Cocktail Royalty Comes South

As a Delhi-waali who migrated down South, I am well aware of the absolute chokehold Yangdup Lama and Minakshi Singh have on India's bar scene. If you've ever sipped a drink at the award-winning Sidecar (a regular on the Asia's 50 Best Bars list), Cocktails & Dreams Speakeasy, or The Brook, you know their pedigree. So, when I heard this powerhouse duo was bringing their mixology magic to Hyderabad for their latest venture, my expectations were sky-high.

And because every great bar needs strong local roots, they've partnered with tech entrepreneur Kishore Pallamreddy. You might know him as the founder of Red Rhino Brewing Co., and someone who gracefully balances global IT leadership with building massive craft beverage ecosystems. Combining Delhi's finest cocktail minds with Kishore's local hospitality muscle? That's a masterstroke.

"How Are You Feeling?"

The moment you walk into Bar Stormy, the vibe is just right. It's sophisticated without feeling intimidating. It has that welcoming, neighborhood-bar philosophy wrapped in warm woods, vintage lamps, and a cheeky "Public Notice" sign that strictly forbids everything from "combing hair" to "sleeping in toilet."

Warm woods, vintage lamps, comic-strip murals — the whole room commits to the bit.

But what really stood out to me was the menu. Open the first page, and you won't find the usual "Whisky, Gin, or Vodka?" categories. Instead, the menu asks two simple questions: "How are you feeling? How would you like to feel?"

They group their eleven signature cocktails — inspired by the classic single-apostrophe Dark 'n Stormy — around emotions and occasions. Whether you're stressed after a twelve-hour shift in the corporate district or celebrating a big win, they've got a mood for that.

Case in point: the Stormy Samba (₹990) — cider-washed bourbon, cardamom, saline, and reduced beer foam, filed under the flavour profile "buttery, sweet & salty" and the mood marker "Euphoria." It's proof that even the Osmania biscuit, Hyderabad's favourite thing to dunk in chai, can hold its own in a cocktail glass.

The Food (and the Wallet-Friendly Masterplan)

Let's be real — I am a foodie first. And the culinary imagination of Chef Abhishek Halder at Bar Stormy is nothing short of brilliant. The menu is a gorgeous weave of Hyderabadi nostalgia, regional spices, and global comfort food. More importantly, as per Chef Abhishek's philosophy, he intentionally designed the menu to keep the bar snacks highly accessible. It's so refreshing to see an upscale cocktail bar where you can order a round of munchies without needing to check your bank balance twice — bar bites start at just ₹150 (the Wai Wai Bhel).

Here is what I stuffed my face with (and yes, I was definitely regretting not wearing my trusty elastic-waistband skirt for this one):

The Verdict & Cost for Two

What stayed with me long after I left was the balance of it all. It's familiar flavors elevated without losing their soul, and sophisticated cocktails that don't feel pretentious. Bar Stormy feels like a place that deeply understands where Hyderabad's palate comes from, while confidently imagining where it's going next — not unlike what I found at Baan Phadthai and Oota Hyderabad, two other recent local openings that made me rethink what's possible on this side of town.

Menu cost for two: Bar bites are genuinely wallet-friendly (starting at ₹150), but the signature cocktails run closer to ₹990 each, so your total depends a lot on how many rounds you order. One cocktail each plus a couple of bar bites keeps you toward ₹1,500 – ₹2,000; go for two cocktails each with a fuller spread of small plates and you're looking at closer to ₹2,500 – ₹3,000. Either way, it's rare to find a bar this polished where the food side doesn't blow the budget.

A truly memorable evening, and one I absolutely loved. If you're planning your weekend, grab a table, order that Pork Belly, and prepare for a brilliant night out. Oh, and the music deserves a mention too — they somehow fused rock with timeless Hindi classics, and it worked so well that I'm already planning my next visit around it.
